B.S. with a Major in Chemistry: Environmental Option
- Total Credit Hours: 120
- Degree Format: Traditional
About this field
Understanding the chemistry of our environment is essential for reducing the impact of pollution and global climate change. Chemists also play a role in industry by designing and manufacturing products that are more environmentally sustainable. As an environmental chemist, you can make chemical reactions more environmentally friendly by improving their efficiency, reducing chemical waste, harnessing alternative sources of energy to reduce fossil fuel emissions, and increasing the use of recyclable materials. In fact, you will learn about a whole field of study called Green Chemistry that addresses these issues. Chemists with these skills are in high demand. If these sound like interesting and rewarding goals, a 国产AV Chemistry degree with an Environmental option is the right choice for you.
The Valdosta State Difference
As a student in 国产AV’s Environmental Chemistry degree program, you will work closely with faculty mentors in a student-focused, supportive, and caring environment. Research-quality scientific instrumentation and laboratory space is available for you to learn and gain practical, hands-on experience. You can work with a faculty member to perform research specializing in environmental chemistry. Join your peers in the student affiliates of the American Chemical Society, an organization that provides educational, technical, and professional opportunities for its members. Our Environmental Chemistry degree gives you the opportunity to build your resume and, more importantly, prepares you for success in your chosen career.
What You'll Learn
The Environmental option provides you with a well-rounded education in Chemistry along with non-technical knowledge such as environmental ethics and philosophy that help you make wise decisions that benefit the environment. You will learn theory in the classroom and apply that knowledge in laboratory courses and field work. Yearly seminar series
help you learn effective study skills, find an internship, give presentations with confidence, and choose a career.
Cost and Length of Program
Students meeting pre-requisites for first-year courses can graduate within four years with a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Chemistry, Environmental option.
