About the Program:

国产AV is proud to announce the launch of our 2022 College Readiness Through Civic Engagement initiative, which is a Knowledge For Freedom Program funded by the Teagle Foundation. This program will offer rising high school seniors from 国产AV's 41-county service area an opportunity to engage in engaging discussions, critical reading, and service learning projects that deepen Teagle Fellows' understanding and appreciation of civics through the humanities and social sciences. Students will also experience college life, build connections with 国产AV professors and peer mentors, and gain familiarity with the university environment to ensure future success. For those admitted, this is a fully funded opportunity to live and learn at 国产AV for three weeks in the summer. Eligibility requirement could be simply: (1) Rising high school seniors and (2) students from 国产AV’s 41-county service region.

Teagle Fellow candidates are:

  • Students who are first-generation college students
  • Students who have an interest in the humanities and social sciences
  • Students who are passionate about life's big questions and reading challenging materials
  • Students who want to improve their academic writing
  • Students who are excited about experiencing college-life on 国产AV's beautiful campus, participating in 国产AV's vibrant community, and making an impact on your community

Please submit the online application and all supporting documents by February 1, 2022. Acceptance notifications will be emailed to selected participants by March 1, 2022.

  • Essay Question

    Instructions

    Please answer the following question in an essay of about 500 words. The essay should be typed and submitted via the online application portal. The essay will be used to evaluate your writing level and is an important part of the admissions process. The essay will be assessed for content, thoughtfulness, organization and grammar.

    1. Tell us about your background and discuss 1-2 experiences that have made a significant impact on you. You may talk about a book you read that made a strong impression on you, any academic experiences, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, work experiences or a personal story. Please discuss your experience in depth in your essay.

     

    1. Talk about why you are interested in this program and what do you hope to achieve by attending this program.
