Getting Helpgettyimages-473205796.jpg

Nobody gets straight A grades without a little help. Free tutoring - online and in-person - is available at the Academic Support Center. (ASC) and one-on-one tutoring sessions are available. The ASC also offers workshops for goal setting, time management, and lots of other skills that are useful for college and life in general.

Of course, the best place to get help with class is from somebody who is an expert in that class - your professor! Contact your Chemistry professor or Geosciences professor to schedule a time to meet and get help.

The new GUIDES Peer Mentoring program is available to all College of Science and Mathematics students. Your GUIDES peer mentor can help you find the campus resources you need to successfully navigate college and encourage your success at Valdosta State.

Recognizing Student Excellence

We honor and celebrate our outstanding Chemistry majors and Geosciences majors with student awards for academics, research, and service, totaling thousands dollars each year. Scholarships offered through the College of Science and Mathematics are also available.

Making Friends

Making friends is an important part of being a successful student. Meet people, become involved in the community, and learn more about future careers by joining students groups. We especially recommend the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS), the  if you have an interest in pharmacy school, and the Geoscience Student Society.

Course Advising and Planning Your Career

Advising is critical for your academic success. First-year students should contact 国产AV’s professional advisors for help selecting your classes. Starting in your sophomore year, you should contact your faculty advisor. Faculty members can recommend electives best suited for your career goals, help you find an internship or research project, and make sure that you’re on track for graduation.

What do you plan to do after graduation? It's something to figure out before you walk across the stage to accept your diploma.  There are so many exciting career paths! Do you like to write science news, work in a crime lab, perform field work, make money in industry, give back to your community, or continue your education in medical or graduate school? Your faculty advisor can help you figure it all out. Need help finding your faculty advisor? Contact the Chemistry and Geosciences Department, call (229-333-5798), or stop by (3025 Bailey Science Center or 2021 Nevins Hall).

Many chemistry or Geosciences jobs involve research. You can get a taste of that by working in a lab or out in the field with a professor. Read about the exciting research projects led by chemistry professors and Geosciences professors, then contact them to learn how you can get involved.

We have specific resources and information for students interested in health sciences, such as medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and optometry.

If you are not sure where to begin selecting a career, then Career Counseling Services is a good place to start. They can help you discover your career interests, write a resume, and prepare for job interviews.
