Vocal Audition Guidelines
Live auditions are preferred; recorded auditions will be accepted under certain circumstances.
BACHELOR OF ARTS: GENERAL
- One classical foreign language song
- One song in English (musical theatre, art song, folk song, or commercial contemporary music, or other approved selection)
- Sight Singing: One or two very simple eight-measure melodies will be given to you at the audition for unaccompanied sight singing. You will be given the first pitch. You can sing the melodies on a neutral syllable (‘lah,’ ‘noo’) or any sight singing system (solfege, numbers, letter names, etc.) you choose.
- Brief Interview.
BACHELOR OF ARTS: EDUCATION TRACK
- One classical foreign language song

MASTER OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE
- One classical French song
- One clasiscal German song
- One classical Italian song
- One song in English (musical theatre, art song, folk song, or commercial contemporary music, or other approved selection).
- Sight Singing: One or two very simple eight-measure melodies will be given to you at the audition for unaccompanied sight singing. You will be given the first pitch. You can sing the melodies on a neutral syllable (‘lah,’ ‘noo’) or any sight singing system (solfege, numbers, letter names, etc.) you choose.
- Brief Interview.

A collaborative pianist will be provided at no charge. Please send clear PDFs of sheet music two weeks prior to your audition via email to sboddie@valdosta.edu. Some contemporary commercial music or classical selections may require the use of a backing track at the discretion of the pianist. Proper attire is expected (i.e. - concert attire: shirt and tie, dress slacks, simple/classic dress, dress shoes, etc.).
