Middle School

Middle school is a unique time for both students and parents. Students are transitioning into the early stages of adolescence and experiencing cognitive, emotional, and physical changes. Parents play a crucial role during this time. Some helpful tips are to:

  • Talk to your child about school

  • Sign your child up for TRIO
  • Create a safe space for them to explore various interests
  • Attend school meetings and events

  • Explore artistic and creative outlets with your child
  • Check and assist with their homework

  • Listen to their career ideas/dreams without judgment

High School

The time has come to help your child get into college and prepare for life after high school. There are several things you can do to help your child along the way.

  • Learn the recommended high school courses needed to make your child’s college application competitive.

  • Gather information on college entrance exams early, instead of waiting until junior and senior years.

  • Allow your child to participate in extracurricular activities and enrichment programs.

  • Get an idea of what type of school your child is interested in to narrow your college search and tours.

  • Talk to school counselors to get help with admissions and financial aid processes.

  • Explore all financial options including scholarships, grants, and loans.

*It is important that you know there will be some changes in the state of Georgia for the HOPE scholarship beginning May 1, 2015. Students are required to have a 3.0 GPA and also have at least two credit courses in rigorous classes. These courses include but are not limited to advanced math and science, AP courses, and dual enrollment courses.*
